Evaluation
In terms of creativity i think i have always been creative but as the course has gone on, i believe i have improved my level of skills in order to improve my creativity. I have took more time in thinking through my ideas to make sure that i have given enough thought to the work. I have always got more than one idea in my head, so that if i try one and it doesn't work for me then i can try another idea. I may have a plan to work to, but as i go along, if i think of something that i think will benefit the work and make it look more creative, then i will incorporate it into the design.
I think i work accurately, although i may not always stick completely to the plan, i will always make sure that everything is in the right place and that it looks how i want to. I always try to make my work the best quality i can, this may be picking the correct font, making sure the blending is good or making sure that everything is lined up and it doesn't look a mess at the end.
I am not very good at meeting deadlines. Despite this, i will always try to get my work in at some point, it is never forgot about. Hopefully the quality of my work may make up for this lack of organization. I believe that i have improved on meeting deadlines that are set over the course and that most of my work is in on time, recently this has been relatively better.
The main piece of equipment i use is the computer, mostly Adobe Photoshop, but i have also become more familiar to using the macs and what they have to offer, i wasn't particularly user friendly with them before as i use mostly windows, but now i can use both to my advantage . However, before i began the course i had no knowledge of lighting, now i feel confident using three point lighting, using the gels on the lens and getting all the right positioning to give the correct effect. I have also learned how to make sets using the bare minimum materials, but also come out with decent images.
I think my ability to share a tasks with people and work in a team is fairly good. Although i am not very controlling and like to sit back and be calm, i can hold my own and get what i want, such as in unit 17 we had to setup a cardboard village and use lighting to take pictures for a poster, i had to direct people around and tell them to do for what i wanted. However I would rather work independently as i feel this is the way where i can get everything as i want it and get the desired outcome without intervention from anyone else. In unit 17 we also had to be directed by other peers and be told what to do, i handled this pretty well and listened to what the person wanted and followed their instructions. For our recent unit 2 pre production work we had to sit round a table and discuss each others ideas for their production work. There was a camera set up and we simply told the group what we were planning to do and got constructive feedback on how to possibly improve our product for the better. Although i listened well during the feedback i was given i wouldn't say that i will actually use any of the ideas that were presented to me, this may be because i like things my own way and would rather come up with something different myself, but possibly referring to the feedback a bit.
I think that my print skills are particularly good, as i have gone through the course i have bettered myself on photo shop and learned how to get new effects and make my work look of a higher quality overall. I have also worked at home on photo shop just making random CD covers, this has also helped me progress. Because of this, i don't think there is much more i need to know about how to use photo shop, but however i do need to learn more about the audio visual side of the course, if i put the work in and practiced using a video camera and lighting etc etc, i think i could better my overall skills in media.

“Report from primary and secondary research”
Name – Josh Gamble
Product – CD Packaging (Front, Back & booklet)
Research
The research that I did to aid me in improving my ideas for my product was mainly in the form of speaking to a focus group that consisted of my target audience. This allowed me to get some more in depth information into what I was potentially going to produce, by getting valuable knowledge from what other people wanted to see in this product. As I spoke about my product to the group and relayed my ideas, I was getting feedback that I could take away and use, I could have gathered any old people to feedback to me but they wouldn’t have had the relative knowledge about the genre in order to give useful information back to me, but having a group that specifically listened to the Hip Hop/R&B genre meant they were able to understand the logic behind my ideas and could use it to feedback positively and negatively.
Primary Research
From this focus group meeting I managed to get a more in depth view into what the consumer was looking for in this product and get a good amount of primary research. My initial idea was to create a futuristic style cover and use this design throughout the packaging, the group thought this was a good idea but after showing my mock ups, it was drawn to my attention that I needed to edit certain areas of the product to meet the demands of the consumer group.
Secondary Research
Secondary research I did on the Internet and through my own knowledge. I used other examples of material to get ideas and get inspiration. I found other CD covers and packaging that were of the same genre and analysed them to further my knowledge of the product. Then I did a random survey to find out what genre’s of music fitted into peoples top five favourite, there were other genres that came in front of Hip Hop, so this made me realise that I had to give this a strong USP (unique selling point) and make this product stand out from the crowd.
Overall Conclusions
From all this research I managed to retain lots of things that I will attempt to implement into my design. I will still use a futuristic style, but I will be using bright colours instead of dark, gloomy colours. I will also have to consider a different setting on the main cover, as the one chose before did not really fit in with the design. Overall, the research I conducted has helped me come to a more complete decision over what my product has to look like in order to get noticed and sell.

Treatment - Josh Gamble
Music Video
I will be creating a music video within the genre of hip hop. It is by "Jay Z" and features "Drake" and the track is entitled "Off That". The video will start with and establishing shot with the camera zooming through space and stopping to view one particular planet in detail. Then The artists within the video will be established with close up shots and low shots from the ground at a foot level. The whole video will feature the two artists in front of the camera while the weather on the set behind them changes constantly from, sunshine to rain to thunder etc etc. It will finish with a zooming out establishing shot of the two artists in front of the camera. It will contain lots of fast cutting shots, over the shoulder, high angle, low angle and chest height. It will be made sure that their are no dodgy shots and that everything within the mise en scene can be seen clearly. The transitions between shots will be simple with just a quick cut between shots, but some longer ones will be faded across each other in slow motion to give some variation.
The video reaches out to the hip hop market which is a fairly large worldwide. The audience can relate to the people in the video, because they are in a similar situation as to what the artists once were, with not alot of money and selling drugs etc etc to create income.
The budget will be $200,000, this will cover the equipment, staff, clothing, special effects and little parts of post production marketing. Blue screen will be used to shoot most of the video on, so that during post production editing the futuristic space style can be created to a proffesional level. The video will be available for download on itunes to ipods and it will be shown on major hip hop music tv channels such as, Mtv Base, Mtv, Flava, Kiss, BET and Channel U. There will be a pre-release advert to go on these channels which will show a short 10 second clip of the video edited down with a voice over describing the video and when its released on tv and online.
The Video will be marketed in several ways. First there will be an online advert placed on various websites to promote the video. Then as I said before there will be a tv advert shown nationwide in the UK and America, this will only be a 10 second clip with voice over. The USP of this video is the futuristic feel, the special effects imposed on the video in editing will set it apart from the rest.

CD Packaging
The CD package will consist of a front cover, back cover and a booklet inside. The front cover will mainly consist of a picture of the artist and his surroundings, it will be themed in space and this will follow through the whole product. The album title and artists name will be in big bold lettering at the top of the cover to grab attention from the consumer. The back cover will follow on from the front, so if you folded it all out it would be one big image. It will consist of the track list, information about the record label and the main players that were involved in producing the CD. Inside, the booklet will contain production information for each song on a different page. The whole product will follow a futuristic design, which in turn will link to the artist and the sub genre that the music falls into. Colours used will be lots of silver, black and yellows with the odd other colour to add variation to the design.
Although the main genre is hip-hop, the style will be futuristic. It will target an audience anywhere from 15-30 and even above. The way in which the cover will be designed should complement the consumer and attract attention from the buyer. Before the actual release of the main product, an EP will be released as a teaser to help the product gain popularity and keep the consumer waiting and help build anticipation. The EP will consist of 5 singles, 3 that have already been released and 2 new songs.
The reason why this particular audience is being targeted is because this market will always be there. In America ghettos or neighbourhoods are called “the hood”, there are millions of people who can relate to the type of music that it involves and therefore will go out and purchase it. It will also target young people who may aspire to be as big as the artist, a lot of young black Americans aspire to being rappers or wealthy businessmen and this product can again relate to what these people are going through.
The product will be marketed in several ways. The first being T.V. adverts to help it gain nation and worldwide notification. The second will be the EP, which will be, released a couple of months prior to the complete CD, to build anticipation. The third will be a nationwide tour involving all the features on the album, which will last 4 weeks and will help to promote the CD further.
When the CD is officially released it will be available in the main chain stores such as HMV and Zavvi. It will also be available for download on places like Amazon and iTunes. It will retail at £10.99 which considering the all the contents that the product consists of, it is a good and fair price which matches most other newly released CD’s on the shelves. The EP will retail at £4.99, a cheap price which will entice the consumer to come back and buy the official release, therefore possibly making an overall sum of £15.98.
